 Scott Field - Lead Pastor

Scott Field

Lead Pastor

Lead Pastor, Scott Field, is a native of Blue Island, Illinois on the near south side of Chicago.

Though he had a connection to a local church through Sunday School, worship attendance, confirmation, and youth group as a child and teen, Scott became an intentional and deliberate follower of Jesus Christ while a student at Hope College in Holland, MI. He responded to God’s call to ministry while at Hope and began the pursuit of training to equip him for service to Christ, the church, and the world. The educational path has brought Pastor Scott a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA, a Master of Theology degree from The Divinity School of Duke University, a Doctor of Ministry degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY, and a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Change Management from North Central College in Naperville, IL.

Scott was appointed as the pastor of Wheatland Salem United Methodist Church in Naperville, Illinois in June of 1980. During his 33 year tenure the congregation has experienced the joys and pains of transition from a ready-to- close country church to a large, globally involved, suburban, multi-staff and multi-site congregation. From Scott’s perspective, while at Wheatland Salem he served as the pastor of at least six different churches through its growth and development.

Scott was appointed to serve as Sr. Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake in July, 2013. He brings a foundational conviction about the power of the Christian gospel to transform life, a palpable excitement about the ministry of First UMC, and visionary expectations about being partners together for the healing of the world in Jesus’ name.

Scott and Lynda have been married since 1976 and have three grown children: Emily (and Greg) Griffin, Nathan (on the recreation dept. staff at University of Wisconsin – Superior, and Adam ( a student at University of Kentucky Gatton School of Business).

He loves singing, reading books, and traveling.

Heather Oysti - Director of Youth Ministries

Heather Oysti

Director of Youth Ministries

Heather grew up United Methodist in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and moved to Grand Rapids in 2002 to pursue a degree in Digital Media. Shortly after my move down with the trolls (sorry, it’s a Michigan joke), I had the privilege of becoming the Children’s Director at First United Methodist Church of Grand Rapids. I worked there for 2 years before taking a year off to complete my studies in audio engineering and video production. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Grace Bible College in May of 2005 and was promptly encouraged to apply for the Junior High position at Grand Rapids First. The rest is history. During my 4 years as Director of Junior High Youth, I was given opportunity to grow, take chances and explore what it is to be a youth worker—it is my sincere belief that the freedom gifted to me was God’s way of preparing me for something big and wonderful and challenging. I am so excited it turned out to be your congregation!
As we continue in ministry, my prayer is that God will do outrageously cool things. I am looking forward to shaping programs that are relational, create laughter and cause each of us to search deeper for the God who gives abundant life. Stop by my office, catch me at church and find me on Facebook! I’ll be excited to hear from you.

Colby Smith - Director of Communications

Colby Smith

Director of Communications

Colby grew up in Ohio. In his teens his family moved to New Mexico, but he always remained a Midwesterner at heart. After meeting his wife, Stacy, the urge to move back was so strong that he and his family moved back to Ohio in 2005. Several years ago he began feeling the urge from God to use his talents in a church environment and began volunteering his skills as a designer at his church in Ohio. God has continued to place that desire on his heart, and he now uses those skills working full-time at First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake.

Colby has a degree in graphic design and has over 20 years in the industry. He spent 10 years as the art director of a multi-million dollar company. After leaving that company he has worked as a freelance marketing and design specialist. Over the years his clients have varied from tiny sole-proprietor businesses to the Wendy’s Restaurant Corporation. He is very excited to turn his talents as a print and electronic media designer as well as his marketing skills to serving the Lord on a full-time basis.
