Bible Text:
Matthew 22:32-40

In today's Scripture from Matthew 22:32-40 we learn God's greatest commandment:

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. 35 One of them, an expert in religious law,
tried to trap him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” 37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God
with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

The Pharisees weren't asking the question to learn from a young, controversial rabbi; they sought to find a way to discredit him, arrest him, and stop what seemed to be a building revolution. And what was Jesus' answer? It was LOVE! Jesus added that EVERYTHING that has been revealed to us by God, everything in his words, his laws, his commands, his prophecies, teachings - everything - depends on those two things. Love God and love others as yourself.

But, what happens when we’ve lost that lovin’ feeling? How can we maintain a Jesus kind of love, when we feel emotionally drained? How do we love others when we struggle to even like them? God so LOVED the world that what...he did something! (Gave his only son.) When you’ve lost that loving feeling...Do something. A God-kind-of-love is a love of action!

When the flame of passion for a ministry, or other people, burns low, we can be secure in knowing that we are still “loving” God by our actions and that we can still “love” people by being patient and generous. Use the love you have for other things to continue your commitment to the Jesus mission.
